1934

The thirties were marked by a string on wins for South Pasadena, most notably thanks to one Miss Margaret Louise Brown, who was an art teacher at the South Pasadena Junior and Senior High Schools. The 1934 award winning float she designed, oversaw the decoration of, and made the costumes for, depicted the German legend of Lorelei, a beautiful maiden who threw herself into the Rhine when see found out her lover was faithless. She was transformed into a siren and, in turn, lured many sailors to their deaths, proving revenge is always an option. The theme for 1934 was “Tales of the Seven Seas,” and to add authenticity to the event, the hours leading up to the Parade dumped 12 inches of rain on Pasadena.

South Pasadena had for its theme “Lorelei”. The theme was tastefully worded out in calendulas and blue and white flowers wit dusty miller and laurel forming the background.
